India is 5th largest egg producer and the 18th largest producer of broilers in the world. Egg is classified under HS Code 0407 in the global trade market. However, India stood at 17 rank in the list of egg exporting countries in the world. Egg export from India to the worth USD 33031 thousand in 2017. Oman is the biggest export market for Indian eggs and purchased around three-fourth of total eggs. The country mainly departs egg shipments from Tuticorin Sea and Sahar Air Cargo ports. Besides these, India also departs egg shipments from seven more ports including Bangalore Air and Hyderabad Air.

Egg Industry in India
According to APEDA, Poultry is one of the fastest growing segments of the agricultural sector in India today. While the production of agricultural crops has been rising at a rate of 1.5 to 2 percent per annum that of eggs and broilers has been rising at a rate of 8 to 10 percent per annum. India has exported 449,527 MT of Poultry products to the world for the worth of USD 79.51 Million during the year 2016-17.
Tamil Nadu counts for maximum egg production. In Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad is the city with maximum poultry and hatcheries. Besides the state of Andhra Pradesh, Vishakhapatnam, Chittoor, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and North Eastern States are the major egg contributors.

Egg Exporting States of India
As per the Exim File’s findings, the biggest egg exporting states of India are Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Karnataka. Tamil Nadu is the largest exporter state and more than half of the eggs are exporting from Tamil Nadu only and it recorded 54% export value in 2017. Maharashtra, second biggest exporter, shipped 32% value of the total export sales.
Indian Egg Export Markets
India shipped eggs to more than 20 countries around the world including Oman, Maldives, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Comoros, Iraq, Iran, Liberia and Myanmar. Oman is the top export market as it recorded 73% value of the egg exports and shipped worth USD 24120 thousand during 2017. According to government notification, it is founded that Oman government has increased the tariff on Indian egg by 5% which results drop in export sales. Indian exporters have requested to the government to add this product in the list of free trade agreement.
